Full Buck Moon Rises Over Croatia as Earth's Shadow and Belt of Venus Appear

A photograph taken from Krk Island in Croatia captures the July full Buck Moon rising alongside Earth's twilight shadow and the pink Belt of Venus.

On July 28, a camera on Croatia's Krk Island recorded the traditional Buck Moon climbing above distant mountains. The image also shows the gray atmospheric shadow cast by Earth at twilight, with the pinkish Belt of Venus arching above it. This celestial arrangement hints at the upcoming August 12 New Moon, which will bring a total solar eclipse later in the month.

Why it matters

The photo illustrates rare twilight phenomena and signals the approach of a major solar eclipse.
