Georgia Hunter Bell targets four gold medals after Commonwealth 800m triumph

Georgia Hunter Bell captured the 800m gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, extending her collection of titles that already includes a 1500m world indoor championship from Poland. The 32-year-old, who trains alongside Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, outlined a goal of winning four gold medals this year, targeting the upcoming European Championships and the first Ultimate Championships later in September. After a five-year break from the sport, Bell earned a bronze in the 1500m at the Paris Olympics and a silver in the 800m at last year’s World Championships.

She described her first outdoor gold as a significant milestone and explained that athlete withdrawals, such as those of Hodgkinson, Dina Asher-Smith, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Matt Hudson-Smith, are personal decisions driven by health and scheduling. Bell emphasized the desire to race continuously but acknowledged the need to prioritize recovery and financial incentives tied to competition.
