GitHub outage disrupts Actions automation and Pages hosting services

GitHub announced an outage on Thursday, initially noting degraded performance for its Actions automation platform at 1522 UTC and subsequently confirming reduced availability. The problem caused workflow runs to either not launch or abort during execution, and API calls to the Actions service began returning errors, accompanied by unexpected rate-limit messages for users. The outage later expanded to include the Pages hosting service, as well as Copilot code review, the Copilot coding agent, hosted runners, and migrations using the GitHub Enterprise Importer.

Webhook deliveries were reported to be delayed, and engineers applied several mitigations while a broader fix was being deployed across affected systems. This disruption adds to a pattern of recent reliability incidents on the platform.
