Glenn Youngkin launches Empowering America's Parents to promote school-choice tax credit

Former Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin has founded a new conservative group, Empowering America’s Parents, to push the Education Freedom Tax Credit in the 20 states that have not yet adopted it.

After leaving office in January, former Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin announced the creation of Empowering America’s Parents, a conservative policy organization focused on expanding knowledge of the Education Freedom Tax Credit. The tax credit, which will launch nationally in January 2027, allows donors to give up to $1,700 to scholarship-granting entities in participating states and receive a federal income-tax credit.

Youngkin’s team plans a multimillion-dollar media campaign to reach the 20 states that have not yet adopted the credit, with particular emphasis on Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania—key battlegrounds that backed Donald Trump in the 2024 election. A source said internal polls revealed low public awareness, leading the group to target persuadable suburban voters supportive of school-choice options. The announcement arrives amid ongoing speculation about which Republicans might run for president in 2028, and Youngkin hinted he still has “more to give” politically during a recent interview with Sean Hannity.
