Goa introduces flexible property registration across any district office

Goa has rolled out a new registration model that lets property owners file documents at any Sub-Registrar Office in the district where the land lies, rather than being tied to a single office. Launched by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on July 29, the initiative operates under the National Generic Document Registration System and makes Goa the third state to adopt the reform. District Registrar Suraj Vernekar explained that rising registrations, especially along the coast, had overburdened offices in Bardez, Salcete and Tiswadi, prompting the shift.

The system enables users to select the office with available appointments, cutting travel time for seniors, NRIs and professionals. Legal expert Sufian Sayed and citizen Aditya Naik praised the measure for simplifying the process and distributing workload more evenly. The government links the reform to broader efforts to digitise public services and upgrade registrar infrastructure.
