GOP Senate Primary in South Carolina Narrows as Candidates Trade Poll Leads
The Republican primary for South Carolina’s open Senate seat is tightening, with several candidates swapping leads in recent polls ahead of Tuesday’s vote.
South Carolina’s open U.S. Senate seat is drawing intense competition among Republican hopefuls as the primary approaches on Tuesday. Other polls have shown Nordone ahead, including a Trafalgar Group poll giving her 27% and a co/efficient poll at 30%, while Fry, Norman and Sanford each lagged behind.
Nordone also enjoys the endorsement of Donald Trump. State law requires a candidate to exceed 50% to avoid a runoff, so a top-two contest could be scheduled for Aug. 25 if the threshold isn’t met. The Republican nominee will face Democrat Annie Andrews in the November general election.
