GOP super PAC launches six-figure ads branding Michigan Democrat Abdul el Sayed as radical

The Senate Leadership Fund has begun a six-figure advertising push that labels progressive Michigan Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed as “dangerously radical” as Republicans aim to capture the open seat.

Abdul el Sayed secured the Democratic nomination for Michigan’s open Senate seat, defeating establishment-backed Rep. Haley Stevens by a narrow margin. The Senate Leadership Fund, a Republican super PAC, responded with a six-figure ad campaign that calls the former public-health official “dangerously radical,” using clips of his statements about police and corporate power. Executive director Alex Latcham highlighted Senator Chuck Schumer’s $60 million effort to block el Sayed in the primary as proof of his perceived threat.

The ads also portray el Sayed’s ties to “extremist figures” and question his stance on policing. El Sayed, the son of Egyptian immigrants and a practicing Muslim, rejected the label, arguing he is only dangerous to corporate interests. The super PAC announced it will invest over $45 million to support former Rep. Mike Rogers against el Sayed in the general election.
