Government denies any plan to mix ethanol with jet fuel, calls reports misleading

India's civil aviation minister said the government has no proposal to blend ethanol with aviation turbine fuel and warned against spreading false safety claims.

On Thursday, the Union civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu used his X account to refute rumours that the government intends to mix ethanol with aviation turbine fuel, describing the claim as wholly false and irresponsible. He clarified that ethanol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) are separate fuels, with SAF being an internationally certified product approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation after rigorous testing.

Kinjarapu warned that circulating such misinformation creates unnecessary anxiety for airline passengers, reaffirming passenger safety as a top priority. The clarification follows recent parliamentary remarks by transport minister Nitin Gadkari about the impact of E20 petrol on vehicle efficiency, which have sparked broader discussion on ethanol-blended fuels. No official proposal to alter jet fuel composition has been presented by the government. Officials urged the public to rely on verified information regarding aviation safety.
