Government weighs public release of ARAI report on E20 fuel effects
Authorities are considering publishing the Automotive Research Association of India's study on how E20 fuel affects vehicles built for E10, aiming to clear consumer doubts.
Government bodies are evaluating the possibility of releasing the Automotive Research Association of India's assessment of E20 fuel's impact on E10-compatible vehicles. The research, commissioned in June 2021 by the petroleum ministry and carried out with Indian Oil Corporation Limited and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, was submitted in June 2024. It concluded that E10-compliant two-wheelers saw a 1-6% rise in fuel consumption while meeting emission standards, BS-IV cars experienced a 2-4% increase, and BS-VI cars a 2-3% rise.
Officials argue that publishing the report would help dispel misconceptions voiced in Parliament. However, details about the specific vehicle models may be withheld to safeguard manufacturers' commercial interests.
