Greenland government warns US-linked oil firm after unauthorized equipment arrival

Greenland's government issued a firm warning to Greenland Energy, a Texas oil firm tied to Donald Trump, after the company delivered drilling equipment to the eastern coast without official consent. The shipment, confirmed by the shipping firm and observed by locals, was intended for exploratory wells in the Jameson Land area, where the company estimates up to $1 trillion of crude. Although Greenland halted new oil licences in 2021, a UK firm holds exploration rights there, and Greenland Energy seeks a majority stake by financing the project.

The company has hired former talk-show host Dr Phil for a documentary and a U.S. Navy veteran linked to missile-defence plans, while its chair Larry Swets claims the venture is unrelated to any annexation agenda. Greenland officials stressed that any future logistical moves must receive prior approval, and an application for drilling permission is still pending. The situation unfolds as President Trump continues to assert interest in Arctic claims, and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, acting as Trump's Greenland envoy, has suggested oil production could start next year.
