Grizzly cub deaths captured live at Katmai National Park spark concern
Two adult female grizzlies killed separate cubs at Katmai National Park within days, and the incidents were streamed live.
Viewers of Explore.org witnessed two distinct incidents in which adult female grizzlies killed cubs at Katmai National Park, one on July 28 near a river and another on August 2. Ranger Sarah Bruce explained that the large concentration of bears—over 30 cubs plus 60 to 80 regular bears—could be creating tension among the animals. After the second attack, staff retrieved the cub's body to reduce risks to humans and other bears, relocating it within the park.
The National Park Service maintains a policy of non-intervention in natural wildlife deaths. Bruce encouraged observers to channel their emotions into positive actions within their own communities.
