Guernsey hurdler Alastair Chalmers falls short of historic Commonwealth Games medal

Competing in Glasgow, Alastair Chalmers, the reigning British 400m hurdles champion, finished sixth after hitting a hurdle with roughly 200 metres remaining, recording a time of 50.24 seconds. The race was topped by Nigeria's Ezekiel Nathaniel in 48.47 seconds, followed by England's Jake Minshull and Jamaica's Assinie Wilson. Chalmers had hoped to add to the bronze he captured four years earlier and to secure Guernsey's inaugural Commonwealth Games medal.

The outcome also meant he missed the opportunity to join Adrian Breton as the only islander with medals at successive Games. Despite the setback, Chalmers remains Guernsey's most decorated track athlete, a six-time national champion and holder of the island's 48.30-second record. He previously reached the Olympic semi-finals before a barrier mishap ended his run.
