Gunfire from Arunachal side injures 18 villagers near Assam border, four critical

A confrontation over claimed land encroachment along the disputed Assam-Arunachal Pradesh frontier turned violent when unidentified shooters from the Arunachal side opened fire at Mingmang Basti. The incident left at least 18 Assamese villagers wounded, including four who were moved to Dibrugarh Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reported that Assam police units have been dispatched to the scene and emphasized that the state will not surrender any inch of its territory.

He also indicated that the chief secretaries of both states and their directors general of police are coordinating to reduce tensions. The shooting adds fresh strain to a long-standing border dispute that has persisted for decades, despite ongoing dialogue and demarcation efforts between the two neighboring states. Authorities are working to treat the injured and prevent further escalation along the sensitive border zones.
