Hadestown drops Hades actor Geno Segers amid resurfaced controversial posts

Broadway’s “Hadestown” confirmed that Geno Segers will no longer appear as Hades after theater blogs highlighted earlier videos in which he criticized transgender issues and pronoun usage, as well as trans athletes in women’s sports. The producers issued a statement saying the separation was mutually agreed upon and that casting updates will follow. In response, Segers set his Instagram account to private and removed the disputed YouTube content.

The production’s refreshed principal lineup includes pop-rock musician Kayko as Orpheus, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Eurydice, veteran Norbert Leo Butz as Hermes, and Amber Iman as Persephone. The show, written by Anaïs Mitchell, blends Greek myths with folk and jazz music and will begin its September 1 run at New York’s Walter Kerr Theatre. A filmed version of the original London cast was released in theaters on July 24.
