Hall of Fame inductee Roger Craig discloses vascular dementia diagnosis

Roger Craig, a former San Francisco 49ers star, used his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction speech in Canton, Ohio, to disclose a vascular dementia diagnosis. Speaking from a prerecorded video while wearing his Hall of Fame jacket, he explained that physicians believe the illness could be linked, at least in part, to the concussions he suffered on the field. Craig described the gradual onset of symptoms, initially dismissed as normal aging, before his family noticed changes.

He highlighted football’s role in shaping his life and urged people to pay attention to brain health and seek help when needed. The audience responded with a standing ovation and embraces from other inductees, including his presenter Jamie Williams. Craig was inducted alongside Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly and Adam Vinatieri.
