Hamilton anti-racism groups issue guide to block extremist conference bookings

An open letter from Hamilton anti-racism groups, including the Hamilton Anti-Racism Resource Centre and Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion, cautions local venues about renting space to Dominion Society of Canada, which plans a ticketed conference called DomCon 2026 on Aug. 29. The letter labels the group as hate-based, citing its promotion of the great replacement conspiracy and calls for mass deportation of immigrants.

To help prevent inadvertent bookings, the groups produced a guide advising venues to require detailed event descriptions, ban sub-leases, allow staff monitoring, and screen speakers for extremist imagery. Merit Brewing’s manager Aaron Spinney said the resource would deter his establishment from hosting such events. Mayor Andrea Horwath urged any city-owned facility to review the organization’s stated objectives before approving a request. Experts warned that the group’s “remigration” rhetoric is gaining traction and intimidates racialized communities.
