Heavy rain triggers roof collapse in Pratapgarh, killing six family members
A roof gave way in a century-old home in Pratapgarh district during heavy rain, killing six relatives and leaving a 28-year-old man critically injured.
In the early hours of Thursday, heavy rain caused the roof of an almost century-old dwelling in Mahuli ward, Pratapgarh district, to collapse, crushing the seven occupants who were asleep. Six family members - Pramod Srivastava, his wife Rita, their son Nitin, daughter-in-law Madhuri, and two infants, Madhav and Babu alias Adivik - were killed. The only survivor, 28-year-old Aman, father of the infant Madhav, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital by police and fire-department responders.
Deputy SP (City) Ashutosh Mishra described the incident as a sudden failure of the ageing structure. Neighbour Poonam Srivastava confirmed that the family was sleeping when the upper floor collapsed onto the lower level, trapping everyone inside.
