Historic Bath home offered for $1 if buyer agrees to relocate it

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works disclosed that it will sell two historic residences for a nominal $1 each, with the Deering House at 606 Washington St. among them. Built around 1900, the house was once home to shipbuilder Gardiner G. Deering, a key figure in Bath’s maritime heritage. The buyer must relocate the structure to a legally permitted location by Nov. 20, 2027 and bear all expenses for permits, movers, transportation, foundation work and utilities.

The building currently serves as office space, with existing tenants under lease through November 2027. Should the relocation not occur, the house will be demolished to accommodate a new company facility. Bath Iron Works officials expressed hope that a suitable lot and buyer will emerge to preserve the historic property, which the community values highly.
