Hollywood financier Jason Cloth arrested in $100 million fraud scheme

Jason Cloth, the producer behind hits like “Joker,” was taken into custody in Los Angeles after a federal indictment charging him with a multi-year $100 million wire-fraud and Ponzi operation.

Los Angeles authorities arrested Jason Cloth, a prominent Hollywood financier whose firm Creative Wealth Media backed blockbusters such as “Joker.” A federal grand-jury indictment filed in Chicago accuses him of orchestrating a sprawling, years-long scheme that defrauded investors and advisory firms of over $100 million. Prosecutors say Cloth raised capital by claiming it would finance movie, television and gaming projects, but instead fabricated performance data and used new money to reimburse earlier backers, typical of a Ponzi structure.

Unauthorised withdrawals funded personal projects, notably a real-estate development in Canada. The indictment lists seven wire-fraud charges and demands forfeiture of at least $12.25 million, with each count punishable by up to two decades behind bars.
