Holocaust Museum Offers NYC Mayor a Tour After He Calls Gaza Situation Genocide

Mayor Zohran Mamdani has not yet answered a public invitation from Jeff Miller, chair of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, to visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and observe what genocide entails. Miller’s outreach on X came after the mayor repeatedly labeled Israel’s conduct in Gaza as genocide, prompting backlash from the Jewish community and a statement from the JUA-Federation of New York about a recent hate-crime stabbing.

In his post, Miller stressed that words from elected officials matter and warned that demonizing Israel can normalize antisemitism, offering to personally guide Mamdani through the museum. One outlet attempted multiple times to confirm whether the mayor would accept the offer, but his office did not respond. The invitation was praised on social media by Senator Rick Scott and investor Bill Ackman, who urged Mamdani to take the tour. Mamdani has faced ongoing criticism for his statements, including calls to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and accusations of genocide in Gaza.
