Factors such as inadequate duct design, excessive static pressure, and air leakage contribute to this shortfall, causing higher utility bills and premature equipment wear. Modern high-performance contractors employ commercial-grade instruments to measure actual delivered capacity, airflow, and pressure, exposing problems that many homeowners and even some installers overlook.
The data also shows that system pressure often exceeds manufacturer specifications by 164%, while airflow meets just 75% of required levels. By focusing on sealing ducts, improving insulation, and correcting airflow, homeowners can achieve significant energy savings without necessarily buying new equipment. The findings challenge the assumption that high-efficiency furnaces or air conditioners alone guarantee low energy use.
