Honda teams up with QuantumScape to accelerate solid-state battery development
Honda announced a partnership with U.S. battery firm QuantumScape to jointly develop solid-state batteries, aiming to boost its EV roadmap and carbon-neutral goals.
In a June 2026 announcement, Honda entered a strategic alliance with California-based QuantumScape to advance solid-state battery technology. The deal will concentrate on developing solid electrolytes and anode-free lithium-metal cells, leveraging QuantumScape’s Eagle Line production line that previously powered a Ducati prototype. Honda’s research chief Atsushi Ogawa praised the platform’s distinct benefits and projected value across multiple applications, including EVs, data centers and robotics.
The partnership follows Honda’s recent withdrawal of three EV models from the North American market and its aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. By tapping QuantumScape’s expertise, Honda hopes to bring solid-state batteries to production by the end of the decade and eventually power 100% of its sales with EVs by 2040.
