House Democrat urges Goldman Sachs to fire ex-legal chief over Epstein remarks

The ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Robert Garcia, wrote to Goldman Sachs chief David Solomon, ordering the firm to end any relationship with former general counsel Kathryn Ruemmler. Garcia condemned Ruemmler’s July 15 testimony before the committee, accusing her of disrespecting Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre and labeling her claims as implausible. He also demanded that Goldman replace Ruemmler with a lawyer lacking any ties to Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell.

Ruemmler, who stayed on as a senior counselor after stepping down in June, responded through her spokeswoman, insisting she never saw evidence of ongoing wrongdoing by Epstein and would have intervened if she had. The former Obama White House counsel also said she believed Giuffre was a victim but could not verify other allegations involving powerful figures. Goldman’s CEO has dismissed the criticism as “fake news” and said the firm remains grateful for Ruemmler’s assistance in the search for her successor.
