Houston TV anchor suspended after accepting complimentary World Cup tickets

Daniella Guzman, a prominent anchor for Houston’s KPRC-TV, has been suspended after it emerged she accepted complimentary tickets to a World Cup game from the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation, the entity that operates NRG Park. The tickets, which granted access to a premium suite for the June 17 Portugal-DR Congo match, were used by Guzman and her parents, and she shared a video of the experience on social media without noting the source.

In addition, she received four tickets to a Bruno Mars concert at the same venue earlier in April. KPRC-TV’s general manager Sean McLaughlin confirmed that the station is conducting an investigation, stressing the importance of avoiding any appearance of a conflict of interest. Guzman, a four-time Emmy awardee who anchored the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts, joins other local leaders—Judge Lina Hidalgo and all four Harris County commissioners—who were also given tickets by the corporation. The station has declined further comment, citing personnel matters.
