HPE now guarantees quoted hardware prices until shipment, easing buyer uncertainty
Hewlett Packard Enterprise has altered its pricing terms so that quotes remain valid from issuance until the equipment leaves its factories, covering deals up to $1 million.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced on Wednesday that it will honor hardware price quotes until the products are shipped, extending the validity period far beyond the earlier 14-day limit for deals up to $1 million involving its Compute, Storage and GreenLake Flex lines. The shift responds to the AI boom, which has driven sharp, day-to-day fluctuations in server, memory and storage component costs and forced many vendors, including Cisco, to adopt short-term quote windows.
HPE claims the move offers customers and partners greater pricing certainty and simplifies procurement, especially given long lead times for some servers. Industry observers suggest that recent multi-year agreements by memory makers Micron and SK Hynix may have given HPE a more predictable cost base. Nonetheless, analysts warn that overall hardware prices remain elevated, with TrendForce forecasting a 13-18 percent rise in server memory prices for Q3 and Gartner reporting double-digit quarterly jumps in DRAM and NAND pricing.
