Hundreds of thousands of bikers descend on Sturgis for the 86th rally
The 86th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has kicked off, drawing hundreds of thousands of riders to the small South Dakota town and surrounding Black Hills.
The annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, now in its 86th edition, has officially begun, attracting an estimated half-million bikers to the tiny South Dakota community and the wider Black Hills region. Over ten days in August, the town’s streets are packed with motorcycles while riders disperse to nearby attractions such as Mount Rushmore, Badlands and Deadwood. The entertainment roster includes country star Lainey Wilson on August 12, plus acts like YUNGBLUD, Megadeth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rob Zombie and Insane Clown Posse.
Two long-distance women’s rides will finish at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame during the Pearl’s Jam event, highlighting female participation. Harley-Davidson is debuting its Deadwood model, and Indian Motorcycle is releasing a Chief Vintage Sturgis SD Edition, both referencing the rally’s history. The gathering, originally founded by Indian dealer Pappy Hoel in 1938, continues to blend racing, concerts, vendor shows and regional tourism.
