ICE detains multiple non-citizens convicted of violent and sexual crimes

ICE reported that over the weekend it arrested a number of undocumented immigrants who had earlier been sentenced for serious offenses such as murder, child sexual abuse, kidnapping and robbery. The detainees hailed from countries including El Salvador, Honduras, Burma, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Laos, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Belize, Guyana, Peru, Costa Rica and others. Specific cases cited include Juan Mauricio Castillo, convicted of willful homicide in Nevada, and several child predators like Juan Escobar-Herrera, Aung Lwin and Bruno Efren Santos-Gonzalez, each previously sentenced for sexual crimes against minors in different states.

The list also comprised individuals with convictions for assault, firearms violations, fraud, drug distribution and other felonies in states such as Nebraska, Delaware, Missouri, New Jersey, California, Florida, New York, Massachusetts and Texas. A DHS spokesperson praised ICE officers for removing these individuals, linking the arrests to broader claims of declining crime rates. The operation underscores the agency’s focus on targeting non-citizen criminals nationwide.
