India's Blue Tigers to host Brazil in landmark friendly at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium

The All India Football Federation announced that the Blue Tigers will face five-time World Cup champions Brazil in a FIFA-approved friendly on October 3 at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Brazil, ranked fifth worldwide, will come to India after completing two warm-up matches against Australia in Queensland. The match revives Kolkata’s long-standing ties with Brazilian football, which began with a 1977 exhibition between Pelé’s New York Cosmos and Mohun Bagan.

AIFF deputy secretary general M Satyanarayan called the event an extraordinary milestone for Indian football, while National Teams Director Subrata Paul said it will give Indian players invaluable experience. Brazil will be led by captain Marquinhos and feature stars such as Casemiro and Matheus Cunha. The game follows Brazil’s recent World Cup exit in the Round of 16 but reflects the continued enthusiasm for the South American side among Indian fans.
