India's July GST receipts surge 15% to exceed Rs 2.11 lakh crore
India's gross GST collections jumped 15.4% year-on-year in July, topping Rs 2.11 lakh crore, driven by stronger domestic sales and import taxes.
According to official figures released on Friday, India's gross Goods and Services Tax collections for July climbed 15.4% year-on-year to more than Rs 2.11 lakh crore, making it the second consecutive month above the Rs 2 lakh crore mark. The surge was fueled by higher receipts from both domestic sales and imports, with Integrated GST accounting for over Rs 1.23 lakh crore of the total. Central GST and State GST added Rs 39,835 crore and Rs 47,881 crore respectively.
Refunds rose 13.1% to Rs 29,968 crore, resulting in net GST revenue of roughly Rs 1.81 lakh crore. KPMG indirect-tax head Abhishek Jain highlighted the strong import component and suggested the data could prompt talks on a GST 3.0 overhaul, especially regarding input-service refunds. The July figures build on June’s 13.9% increase, which was also driven largely by a 34.6% jump in import-related tax collections.
