In its 2025 annual report, the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation stated that India carried out 20,138 organ transplants, breaking the 20,000-procedure threshold for the first time. The figure represents a 6.5% increase compared with the previous year and is roughly fourfold higher than the 4,990 surgeries recorded in 2013. While the total volume is rising, the share of deceased-donor transplants continues to fall short of national needs, indicating a persistent supply gap.
