India surpasses 300 GW of renewable power capacity, edging toward 2030 goal
India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy reports that installed non-fossil electricity capacity has reached 300.50 GW, about 54 % of total power capacity.
According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India’s installed non-fossil power capacity hit 300.50 GW as of July 31, representing over 54 % of the country’s total installed capacity of around 552 GW. Solar power leads the portfolio with 164.59 GW, followed by wind, hydro, bio-power and nuclear, while bio-power and nuclear contribute 11.75 GW and 8.78 GW respectively. One outlet added a record 55.29 GW of non-fossil capacity in the 2025-26 fiscal year, of which solar accounted for 44.6 GW and wind 6 GW.
Solar capacity has surged from 2.8 GW in 2014 to roughly 165 GW today, and wind capacity has risen from 21 GW in 2014. Renewable electricity generation more than doubled since 2014-15, and domestic solar module manufacturing capacity listed under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers now exceeds 200 GW, up from 2.3 GW in 2014. The ministry noted that further expansion will support industrial emission reductions and the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
