Indian para team matches all past Commonwealth medals with seven wins in Glasgow

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, India’s 28-member para delegation achieved a record performance, winning three gold, two silver and two bronze medals. This tally matches the cumulative total India had collected since para events were introduced in 2002, highlighting rapid progress in the sport. Para athletics was the dominant discipline, contributing six medals, while Jhandu Kumar secured a bronze in para powerlifting.

The Games also broke a 20-year gap since an Indian para athlete last stood on the Commonwealth podium, a feat previously achieved by Ranjith Kumar Jayaseelan in 2006. Indian athletes claimed multiple one-two finishes, such as Sharmila’s gold and Shilpa Shyla’s bronze in women’s F57 shot put, and Dilip Mahadu Gavit’s gold alongside Mohammed Basil’s silver in the men’s T47 100m. Earlier successes at the 2022 Birmingham Games were limited to table tennis, and a previous powerlifting gold was later revoked for doping.
