Influencer survives facial cancer surgery, emerges with 60 stitches

Anna Papalia, a content creator with millions of followers, first noticed a tiny bump on her nose five years ago, which a dermatologist called a cyst. When the spot later bled and irritated her, she sought removal from a different doctor who immediately ordered a biopsy. The test confirmed basal-cell carcinoma, a skin cancer linked to ultraviolet exposure, and surgeons excised a 2.5-centimetre section of facial skin using Mohs micrographic technique.

The operation left long cuts across her cheek and required 60 stitches to close the wound. Recovery was painful and emotionally taxing, but after scar-reduction treatments the mark is now faint. Papalia now advocates for sun protection and regular skin checks, warning others about the dangers of sunbeds and neglecting sunscreen.
