Iran intensifies internal security measures amid lingering US-Israel tensions

Amid unresolved diplomatic efforts concerning US-Israel tensions, Iran has tightened internal security, with police and morality units increasing arrests and punitive measures against perceived immoral behavior. Authorities have ordered compulsory hijab, closed numerous businesses and cultural venues, and pressured students, lawyers and other professionals. The government continues to portray the January nationwide protests as a coup orchestrated by foreign intelligence, citing public hangings and multiple executions for charges such as "waging war against God".

United Nations officials note at least 56 executions on national-security grounds since March, while human-rights groups warn the death toll may be far higher. Tehran's prosecutor has opened cases against online users supporting those executed, and state media routinely label dissenters as terrorists or rioters. The broader campaign aims to deter future demonstrations and reinforce state authority.
