J&K police file FIR against PDP activist Iltija Mufti over alleged assault

Jammu and Kashmir police have filed a first one outlet's report against Iltija Mufti, a member of the PDP, alleging she assaulted a constable by biting his forearm during a demonstration against the revocation of Article 370. The charges cite sections of the BNS that pertain to assaulting public servants and rioting. Authorities also named former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, Iltija's mother, for allegedly violating protest restrictions.

The PDP denied the allegations, asserting that Iltija was forcibly dragged for about half an hour and that police prevented supporters from reaching her. Party functionary Arif Amin said Iltija was injured while being taken to Lal Chowk, and that police later questioned her despite her receiving medical care. The party criticized the FIR as an abuse of power and called for respect of her medical condition and due process.
