Jack Ma’s Yunfeng Capital invests $30 million in US AI insurance startup Corgi

Jack Ma’s private-equity firm Yunfeng Capital quietly placed about $30 million into AI insurer Corgi, valuing the San Francisco startup at $4 billion.

Yunfeng Capital, the private-equity vehicle co-founded by Chinese billionaire Jack Ma and businessman David Yu, has led a financing round that injected roughly $30 million into Corgi, an artificial-intelligence powered business-insurance startup based in San Francisco. The funding places Corgi’s valuation at about $4 billion, after its worth nearly quadrupled in the past three months. Corgi, a graduate of Y Combinator’s summer 2024 cohort, is known for operating a 24-hour café and maintaining a seven-day workweek.

This investment is the first publicly known instance of Yunfeng Capital backing a U.S.-based company, occurring as Washington and Beijing tighten scrutiny of overseas tech capital flows. Neither Corgi nor Yunfeng Capital commented, and Ma’s charitable foundation and Alibaba also remained silent. The transaction underscores the growing difficulty of cross-border tech investments amid heightened geopolitical tension.
