Jamestown launches immersive Skywalk and history tour at One Times Square

Developer Jamestown opened the full suite of immersive attractions at One Times Square, including a $44 Skywalk and a historic “Times Travel” exhibit.

Jamestown has opened the complete set of “immersive” experiences at One Times Square, five years after announcing a half-billion-dollar redevelopment of the vacant tower. For a $44 fee, guests can ascend to the Times Square Skywalk, an open-air platform offering panoramic, 360-degree views, and then explore the “Times Travel” package on lower floors that highlights the area’s history with attractions like a virtual 1930s dirigible flight over Manhattan.

The project aims to counteract the district’s reputation issues and attract upscale tourists, which office tenants and local merchants view as vital for the Bowtie’s image. CBRE tristate research director Michael Slattery pointed out that office vacancy in the Bowtie and nearby south-of-50th-Street area sits at 11.7%, lower than the 20% rate in West Midtown, making the location still competitive. Times Square Alliance president Tom Harris called the opening a positive sign, saying it will let the excitement of the annual ball drop be felt throughout the year for the hundreds of thousands of daily visitors. The development joins other recent investments, such as new leases and office conversions, as the area continues its post-cleanup revitalization.

Why it matters

The attraction seeks to boost tourism and improve the commercial appeal of a key New York City district.
