Jesse Eisenberg’s latest project, the musical comedy-drama The Debut, has been selected to close the 70th BFI London Film Festival, with the closing night gala scheduled for Oct. 18. The film, featuring Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti, Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu, Bernadette Peters, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper, Maulik Pancholy and Bonnie Milligan, tells the tale of a shy woman who is unexpectedly cast in a local original musical and becomes absorbed in the high-stakes environment created by a strong-willed director.
Eisenberg, who wrote and directed the picture, is expected to attend the U.K. premiere alongside his cast. Festival artistic director Kristy Matheson highlighted the movie’s sharp script and standout performances, calling it both funny and heartfelt. The festival runs from Oct. 7 to Oct. 18, opening with the film Elsinore. Lionsgate will distribute The Debut in U.K. cinemas on Jan. 15, 2027.
