Jets overhaul defensive line around Will McDonald IV for 2026 season
The New York Jets added several players and a new coordinator to boost the defense surrounding Will McDonald IV, who led the team with eight sacks last season.
The Jets have dramatically reinforced the unit that backs defensive end Will McDonald IV, who posted eight sacks in the previous campaign. Their draft strategy brought David Bailey, the No. 2 overall pick, and free-agency moves added Joseph Ossai and Kingsley Enagbare. Inside, Jowon Briggs contributed four sacks, and the team ranked 31st with 20 total sacks.
Brian Duker steps in as defensive coordinator while head coach Aaron Glenn assumes play-calling duties. The secondary was refreshed with veterans Minkah Fitzpatrick, Nahshon Wright and rookie D'Angelo Ponds. McDonald’s fifth-year option was exercised, keeping him under contract through 2027, and a strong 2026 could influence future extension talks.
