Jets rookie David Bailey exits practice with ankle injury, coach says he'll recover

New York Jets rookie edge rusher David Bailey hurt his ankle during a practice drill, but coach Aaron Glenn expects a quick recovery.

In a practice session in Florham Park, New York Jets rookie edge rusher David Bailey suffered an ankle injury while rushing the passer in an 11-on-11 drill and left the field with a limp. After a brief assessment by trainers, he jogged a few times and eventually walked back to the locker room with teammates. Coach Aaron Glenn said Bailey got up after the ankle issue and will be fine, describing his status as day to day and noting the team’s upcoming two-day practice break before joint sessions with Tampa Bay.

The Jets also disclosed that rookie safety VJ Payne will miss three to four weeks due to a bone bruise, and edge rusher Kingsley Jonathan bruised a thigh but is expected to be okay. Defensive coordinator Brian Duker praised Bailey’s early performance in camp, highlighting his sack-producing potential.
