Jharkhand park hatches 13 cobras and boas via first artificial incubation

At the Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park in Ormanjhi, Ranchi, seven Spectacled Cobra eggs were incubated under controlled temperature and humidity, yielding five healthy newborn cobras after roughly 70 days. Simultaneously, eight sand boa eggs hatched, adding to the facility's reptile breeding successes. Veterinarian Om Prakash Sahu managed the incubation, and herpetologist Vivekananda Kumar monitored development throughout.

Zoo director and IFS officer Jabbar Singh praised the achievement as evidence of the growing importance of scientific management in wildlife conservation. The hatchlings are now under close veterinary observation, with ongoing care and monitoring planned. State Forest Department officials said the breakthrough will boost future research and captive-breeding initiatives across Jharkhand.
