Julien Frascadore to Lead Canada at Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony

Julien Frascadore, the Canadian judoka who captured the men’s-66 kg gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, will serve as the nation’s flag-bearer for the closing ceremony. The Beauport, Quebec native entered the Hydro arena at 4 p.m. ET to lead the Canadian delegation. His tournament performance was perfect, winning all four bouts without conceding a technical point and edging defending champion Georgios Balarjishvili in overtime.

Earlier in 2023 he earned a silver medal in Santiago and a gold at the Pan-American-Oceania Championships in Calgary. After narrowly missing selection for the Paris 2024 Olympic team, he served as a training partner and now balances tax-law studies at HEC Montreal with ambitions for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Canada’s judo squad also includes gold-medallists Evelyn Beaton and Laurence Biron, and silver-medallists Heidi Quach and Guillaume Gaulin.
