JuneShine shuts its last two California taprooms as brand pivots
JuneShine announced that its Santa Monica and Scripps Ranch tasting rooms will close on August 28, ending its owned taproom presence in the United States.
JuneShine will pour its last drinks at the Santa Monica and Scripps Ranch taprooms on August 28, marking the end of its company-owned tasting rooms across the country. The brand, which launched in 2018 as California’s first organic hard kombucha brewery, grew quickly after opening a North Park location and later converting the former Ballast Point headquarters into a 30,000-square-foot flagship brewery. Ambitious plans for nationwide canned cocktails and a Brooklyn brewery fell short, with the New York venue closing in 2024.
This year the company halted all in-house brewing in San Diego, outsourced production, and listed its flagship facility for sale. Earlier closures included the original North Park taproom and the Brooklyn outpost, leaving only retail distribution of the product. JuneShine assures customers the brand will remain on shelves and in bars despite the loss of its physical locations.
Why it matters
The closures signal a major retreat for a once-fast-growing beverage brand, affecting local jobs and the craft drinks market.
