Kentucky man released after serving full sentence for 2015 child stabbing

The Kentucky Department of Corrections announced that Ronald Exantus left prison on Wednesday after fulfilling the sentence imposed by the Woodford Circuit Court for the December 7, 2015 attack that killed 6-year-old Logan Tipton. Exantus had been convicted of assault for stabbing the victim’s father and two sisters, while a jury found him not guilty of murder by reason of insanity. He received a maximum 20-year term and earned nearly nine years of credit, leading to his release under state law, not parole.

Dean Tipton, Logan’s father, posted a furious message on Facebook, claiming the family has been punished more than the offender. Earlier, the Kentucky legislature enacted Logan’s Law to restrict early release for violent crimes, but the law does not apply retroactively to Exantus. The father also warned he would seek retribution if he ever encountered Exantus again.
