Kenya Airways tyre failure shuts Cape Town runway, delaying flights

On Tuesday afternoon a Kenya Airways flight experienced a tyre burst while landing at Cape Town International Airport, leaving the aircraft stranded on the main runway. Airports Company South Africa closed the runway for several hours, redirecting incoming traffic to alternate airports and pausing outbound international services. Passengers were evacuated without injury, and the airline posted that engineers were working to repair the aircraft.

The runway reopened later in the day, allowing most flights to continue, but a number of services stayed delayed as normal operations were restored. Cape Town, a major tourist hub, relies on the airport as South Africa’s second-busiest gateway, making the disruption noteworthy for travelers and airlines alike.
