King Charles to Begin Search for New Principal Private Secretary

Sir Clive Alderton, who has served as principal private secretary to King Charles and Queen Camilla for several years, will vacate the post after turning 60 in May 2027. The palace plans to start looking for his replacement soon, with Alderton expected to aid the transition once a successor is appointed. In his tenure, he has overseen the organization of official duties, including the coronation, and has been involved in personal matters of the royal family, such as the Sussexes' decision to step back from royal duties.

Prince Harry referred to him as "the Wasp" in his memoir, highlighting his influence in those discussions. Alderton, a career diplomat, draws a salary of roughly £300,000 and has been praised for his humor and discretion, having met figures ranging from President Donald Trump to local community leaders. He recently greeted new prime minister Andy Burnham at Buckingham Palace on behalf of the monarchs.
