Acquired from Philadelphia in April for cash, journeyman Kody Clemens delivered a dramatic walk-off grand slam at Target Field, turning a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. The hit was the MLB's 34th ultimate grand slam and the second of the season, following Bryce Eldridge's in June. By ending a potential no-hit game after the seventh inning, the Twins became the first club to combine a late-game no-hit break with a walk-off grand slam.
Clemens also joined a short list of players who have won a game with a grand slam under those exact circumstances, alongside Brian Giles and Ryan Roberts. The victory leaves the Twins at.500, a game behind the Cleveland Guardians in the wild-card standings, while star outfielder Byron Buxton remains on the injured list.
