Kosovo announces discovery of a third suspected wartime mass burial site
Kosovo officials say a third possible mass grave from the 1998-99 conflict has been located, adding to earlier finds.
Authorities in Kosovo reported the detection of a third location that could hold mass burial remains from the 1998-99 conflict, expanding a search that already yielded a second site. The latest excavation is expected to focus on an area near Zubin Potok, where officials estimate up to 23 individuals may be interred. To date, eleven bodies have been exhumed and sent for DNA identification, a procedure that may extend over several months.
Acting President Albulena Haxhiu used social media to call the discovery a painful reminder of wartime atrocities and urged international partners to condemn ongoing obstruction, which she attributes to Serbia. Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said the victims were likely Albanian civilians abducted and killed in the spring of 1999, and local police have arrested three men suspected of involvement in war crimes.
