Kyle Seeback stresses Canadian conservatism is distinct from Trumpism

Kyle Seeback, a four-term Conservative member of Parliament from Ontario, wrote that Canadian conservatism predates and differs fundamentally from Donald Trump’s brand of politics. He describes the Canadian tradition as anchored in responsible government, the rule of law, balanced budgets and a strong defence, contrasting it with what he calls Trumpism’s loyalty to a single leader and contempt for institutions. Seeback cautions that adopting the American model would undermine Canada’s sovereignty, especially when U.S. policies, such as tariffs, affect Canadian jobs.

He calls for robust opposition to the Liberal government’s handling of issues like high taxes, unaffordable housing and strained public services, emphasizing that such criticism is not Trump-style rhetoric. The MP also reassures voters who have drifted away from the Conservatives that the party remains committed to Canadian values and will continue to put national interests first.
