Lane Cove Public School celebrates 150 years with Nicole Kidman's recorded greeting

Lane Cove Public School, established in 1876 on Sydney's Lower North Shore, celebrated its sesquicentennial with an open day that welcomed former teachers, alumni and community members. Among the attendees was Channel Nine news presenter Peter Overton, who recalled his time as school captain in 1977. The event featured a pre-recorded message from Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman, filmed while she was in Santorini, Greece, in which she reminisced about the schoolyard and old friendships.

Former classmate Meredith Lucas, who shared classes with Kidman, also returned to speak about the close-knit environment. Principal Terry McKinnon highlighted the school's strong creative arts and music programs and said the timing of Kidman's greeting was perfect. The celebration underscored the lasting connections forged at the historic institution.
